Mission & Vision

The Garo Sahitya Sabha (GSS) is the apex socio-cultural and literary organization dedicated to promoting the Garo language and cultural heritage. Headquartered in Bhalukdubi, Goalpara, Assam, the organization works closely with state governments to expand mother-tongue education and actively campaigns for the inclusion of the Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.


Key Activities and Objectives

  • Education Expansion: The GSS has successfully advocated for the Garo language to be used as a medium of instruction and has been pushing for its extension up to the Higher Secondary (Class 12) level in Assam.
  • Linguistic Promotion: The Sabha regularly holds conferences, publishes Garo literature, and organizes public gatherings.
  • Cultural Representation: Alongside local committees, the organization frequently interacts with the state government, emphasizing the need to strengthen mother-tongue education in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP).
